At Friargate Alterations, not only do we specialise and cater for Wedding and Bridal Alterations, we also cover anything related to Alternative Weddings. Whether you already have outfits and need them reworking or adjusting, or if you would like us to make your outfits or dress for the big day.
We are a team of dedicated seamstresses with knowledge and experience in design, pattern cutting, styling and manufacturing. Gina’s Gothic Victorian Wedding
The Gothic Victorian Wedding Outfit
The outfit we created consists of a skirt and corset, both provided by the customer, which served as the foundation and base layers for our design.
For the corset, we added a distinctive lace trim to form a decorative boarder along the top edge. We then incorporated tulle shoulder sleeves in a deliberately “messy” style, enhancing the overall gothic aesthetic.
The petticoat began as a plain piece; we transformed it by adding layered netting and lace to build volume and create a more dramatic effect.
The Steampunk Wedding

This has been our most ambitious project to date. Centered around the theme of a steampunk wedding, the project involved hand-making three complete outfits and reworking and up-cycling additional garments to create a cohesive collection.
The final collection was designed for the groom, the bride, the mother and father of the of the groom and the mother of the bride. To visually unite all the looks, we introduced accents of gold throughout the designs. This was achieved by using the same gold buttons across all outfits, as well as incorporating gold brocade fabrics for the groom, the bride and the mother of the groom.
